Experience Perth!
Arriving early afternoon at Hyatt hotel located at Adelaide Terrace, I started the day by walking next the Swan River to Heirisson Island. This island has a Kangaroo reserve, I was so excited and hoping I would see some, because the concierge of the hotel told me there is an 80% chance to see them. Entering the reserve, I saw some people coming back, I asked them immediately if they saw some kangaroos. They told me they had seen two kangaroos chilling next to the lake, they gave me the directions and I followed the instructions given.
After a 10 minute walk I saw the lake so I started to slow down and look for them. Then, a couple of meters further I spotted the two kangaroos. I was so excited! This was the first time in my life a saw a kangaroo in the wild. I started walking towards them very carefully, I was a little scared to be honest. But getting closer, I realized that they didn’t really care I was there, they didn’t move at all and were chilling. I observed them for a while, took some pictures and went on with my visit in Perth city.
I left Heirisson Island and walked back to the city enjoying some time in Queens Garden, a cute little park popular for open-air weddings and wedding portraiture.
From here I continued towards The Perth Mint, this is Australia’s largest fully integrated, innovative precious metals enterprise, providing premium gold, silver and platinum products and services to markets around the world. Unfortunately, I only saw it from the outside because it just closed when I reached this place. Next time I would definitely come here and visit the Perth Mint.
As I continued walking I reached the beautiful St Georges Cathedral, one of only a few cathedrals constructed of handmade bricks. I entered and admired the inside of the cathedral as I always admire them.
Across the street, there is another park located named Supreme Court Gardens, which I entered. Here you can find the Council House and the Government House. Walking through this park I ended up crossing another street called Riverside Drive and went down to the Barrack Square where I saw the Bell Tower. This is a must see tourist attraction and overlooking the Swan River which makes it an unique place to visit. It has become an icon for Perth and Western Australia. It is filled with history and is a unique design, resulting from an architectural competition. There is more than only the Bell tower located at the Barrack Square, such as cafes, restaurants and 6 different jetties.
Then, I continued walking to Elizabeth Quay, a vibrant destination with activities for people of all ages with plenty of things to see and do. It is named in honor of Queen Elizabeth II and a mixed-use development project in the Perth central business district. Beautiful views can be seen from here, there is the city and the beautiful swan river which you can see. I really enjoyed the view from Elizabeth Quay Bridge and the little breeze on this summer evening made this even more enjoyable. At this time the evening started so I decided to have dinner here and went back to the hotel afterwards. I took the cycle lanes on Riverside Drive to go back to my hotel, a very enjoyable walk as it is all along the Swan River. All with all, a perfect day in Perth!
